Salons & barbershops

Your chair is full. So is everyone else’s. The phone is still ringing.

You answer your phone — I know, because my wife runs a salon and so does she. The calls you lose are the ones that come when the shop is shut.

Built and run by one person, here in Tulsa. Not a call centre.

What actually goes wrong

A salon is closed more than it is open. Sunday, Monday, every evening after six — that is over a hundred hours a week when your line is live and nobody is behind it. A new client ringing three salons on a Sunday night books with whichever one picks up.

And during the day it is not that nobody answers, it is what answering costs. Somebody puts down their foils, wipes their hands, takes a name, and the client in the chair waits. That is the tax you are actually paying.

The other one nobody counts: a colour cancels at nine in the morning for a one o’clock. That chair has an expiry time measured in hours, and filling it means somebody making calls instead of working.

What it does for salons & barbershops

It knows your menu, not a generic one

Your services, your prices where you allow prices to be quoted, your durations. If a new curly client asks for a service that is only for returning guests, it books the right one instead — that distinction has cost salons real money.

It knows who does what

If only one of your stylists is curly-certified or does extensions, it offers that person and takes a message when they are booked. It will not hand a new curly client to somebody who does not cut curly.

It tells them how to turn up

Curly appointments go wrong more often over prep than anything else. It says the words — dry, detangled, no product — before they hang up.

Worth saying out loud

What it will not do

Every one of these is a place where being confidently wrong costs you more than saying “let me have someone call you back.” So it says that instead.

  • It will not quote a price on anything that varies by hair. Almost every colour service on a salon menu starts from a number, and a client told $180 who is charged $250 is a chargeback conversation.
  • It will not book a service that needs a stylist to see the hair first. It books the consultation.
  • It will not take a colour correction. Anyone saying “it went orange” gets a message taken and a human calling back.

Find out what it is costing you

Tell me about your phone and I will come back with a real number for your business, not a slider on a website. No charge, and no obligation to buy anything.

I read these myself. No newsletter, no drip sequence, no selling your details on.
